Here is the post for the last two articles from Weber Writes:
In Mi's "No One Wins," what did you think of her discussion of audience in the first two pages? Did she choose a difficult audience to write to, and how do you think it affected the way she wrote the essay?
In "A Growing Sensation," what do you think the main point was? Was the author successful in conveying her ideas and persuading her audience?
In "No One Wins", I thought that her organization on the second page was great because she labeled what her audience analysis sections were. I thought that the audience she chose for this article was probably the ideal audience in some ways, but could also prove to be difficult in some instances since they might know a little more on the subject than her.
ReplyDeletei would agree with you in that it would be difficult to speak to an audience with extensive knowledge on the subject. They have a deeper understanding of the topic then the average person. The factual information presented must be 100% accurate and without bias to gain trust and acceptance from the reader.

DeleteAfter reading "No one wins" I found the article to be fairly well written, she knew the audience well, and targeted them with her article. I agree with jacky that some people may be more knowledgeable then her on the subject so her paper may jus be repeating known information versus bringing new information to the table.

I agree, but a thought comes to mind; If she's not bringing anything new to her target audience, is that really the target audience? They lived the war and know a lot more about the specifics. So is she just telling them what they already knew and that's the whole article? Just a thought

In "A Growing Sensation," I like how Workman started off by setting the scene for the farmers market. It can be hard to describe a farmers market sometimes because they are all different. I also liked how Workman described how in order to sell things at a farmers market, the vender must "make-bake-or-grow" their own product.
ReplyDeleteIn "No One Wins," I thought it was interesting how Mi focused her article on Vietnam Veterans even though she thought they would disagree with her. Some of her arguments seemeed very valid, however it was obvious that the essay was written by someone with a Vietnamese background and not a military one.

"No One Wins," she try to convince, out line for her paper basic format around. I think she choose a difficult audience to write.
ReplyDelete"A Growing Sensation," the main point is try to make fresh farmer market, and talk about locate of farmer market. I think the author was successful in conveying her ideas and persuading her audience.

The Audience Analysis was interesting but I think it works better as prep work rather than in a paper.
ReplyDeleteI liked Workman's topic and think he is right in suggesting we need to support the small farmers markets, however, it's not the most economical alternative.

In "A Growing Sensation," I think the author was trying to make people aware of the global food marketplace and production process highlight many concerns we should all consider when purchasing food. I think the concession that we're not going undo the current process, in addition to a non-pushy tone, worked well for the writer. I think it was a good way to get people to consider other options like a farmers market.

I didn't particularly enjoy reading ''No One Wins.'' If I was a bit more interested in history and wars, perhaps I would have found it easier to read. I was confused by the audience analysis after the first few pages, I feel like it broke the paper up too much. And I also found the abbreviations hard to read.
ReplyDeleteIn the article ''A Growing Sensation,'' I really enjoyed Workman's argument and I happen to agree with him/her that we need to buy more healthy foods locally to help promote local businesses. I think Workman's argument is very relevant in recent times as local businesses have declined over the years because of large supermarketsmoving into our towns and cities.

No one wins kinda pissed me off a little bit. she started off aggressive then kinda mellowed out as the article went on. yeah veterans from that era are in bad shape. her writing style was ok it seemed kinda fragmented and difficult to follow
ReplyDeleteGrowing sensation explained what we already should know. Smaller local farms are not really able to compete with big stores and their logistics of transporting produce. While preferable to put money back into the community people often dont realize this is an option and prefer the one supermarkets because theyre more readily available.

In "No one Wins" it seemed to me that she chose a different audience then most. It seems to me like she was pushing to hard on the subject. I don't know, maybe its just me, but I felt like I was really trying hard to get threw it. It effected the way she wrote it because maybe she didn't realize how readers would react.

in the article "No one Wins" I did not like her lead in to the article I felt it was confrontational and could put many veterans on the defensive. after reading her article I found that she had good points, stated the facts, and presented a good argument against the US involvement in a civil war. I believe she could of started out with a better intro and still got her point across.
ReplyDeleteIn the Article "No one Wins" I felt that she started out confrontational and could get the veterans defensive on her subject. after reading the article I found that she presented a good argument, had good information and gave good reasons why the US should of stayed out of a civil war. she presented facts about the conflicted and I have to agree with her view. I believe she could of started out her article differently and still got her point across.

I think author was successful persuading audience. he describes about farmers' market in introduction to give basic information to readers. also he uses sources to support his opinion. it is really persuasive.
