"BCS: Bonus or Bust?" and "Star Wars: Timeless Work of Art or George Lucas' Tinker Toy?"

"BCS: Bonus or Bust?" For those of you who follow college football, what did you think of Lunt's suggestion for change in the BCS? Does he make logical arguments?

Star Wars: Timeless Work of Art or George Lucas’ Tinker Toy?” What did you think of this article? Does this issue matter, even to those who aren't Star Wars fans?

  1. I thought that the first article was fairly well written but I did not enjoy the subject. However, usually I don't like reading statistics but I feel like the writer did a good job at making things flow and I didn't feel like they were difficult to read. The second article I enjoyed a bit more but I still didn't love the subject. I think the idea of the paper is good but I feel like the writer is perhaps just having a ''dig'' at George Lucas.

  2. BCS: I think there is a legitimate claim to the unfairness prominent conferences get over smaller ones, but football programs don't equate to basketball programs (team size, resources, game schedules, tournament). I think there have been as many bad match-ups with overrated teams as there have been where teams get left out. The top 4 team playoff that is slated to begin would have left out Utah and Boise State. Whatever you do, you'll still have tremendous debate over who's in and who's out.

  3. I thought that the article on the BCS was pretty well written and full of facts, although he only cited in the middle of the article. It definetly showed the corruption and unreliability of the BCS.
The Star Wars article was very well written and definetly showed the readers that George Lucas is losing it a bit. There is no reason to change these movies besides digitally remastering them to fit future ways of viewing.

  4. BCS remove the c and look at what you have left. The article targets a well known problem and puts it to paper very well. yeah Lucas is losing it a little and the originals will always have a special place.

  5. I thought that the BCS article was well written, but I didn't really enjoy it since I am not a football fan. The author backed up his claims with lots of good sources and if I was a college football fan, I would have probably thoroughly enjoyed the article.
In the Star Wars article, I thought it was well written and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think the issue does matter to the fans because they fell in love with the original films, not the tinkered with re-released ones. Though George Lucas is a very good director and had a great idea with the Star Wars movies, I don't like that he keeps messing with them. It's one thing to remaster the films, but its completely different to change a bunch of little things whenever you feel they need to be and re-release the films with the new material over and over again.

  6. In Lunt's article, I feel that he made a very persuasive argument that he backed up with many facts pulled from a variety of sources to fully illustrate his point. Though I'm not a follower of football, Lunt made is article easy to follow and comprehend.

In Ondrusek's article, I felt that he wrote it like a child throwing a tantrum. His opinion was well supported with his sources and examples from the movies which made it well written, but I think that it could have been better written if the subject wasn't so heated. This subject seems to be very important to diehard fans, but to me, I feel that Lucas' movies are all good and this issue isn't very important in the scheme of things.

  7. With me, I'm not interesting with this subject. First article, I think Lunt makes strong argument for changing the BCS. He supports his claim. Second article, I think he is convince readers that this an important. I don't think we need to change this movie.

  8. In the article, "BCS: Bonus or Bust?" written by Brady Lunt I found it unfair what they do for the ranking of college football. I can see that a lot of people may be mad about this, but to me football is not really in my interest. On the other hand, if it was a sport I love, say volleyball, then yes I would feel somewhat mad about what is going on and how the system works.

  9. I like college football in person as a fan in the stands, but I do not follow the politics of it all. I enjoyed reading "BCS: Bonus or Bust" and thought Lunt had some great examples of ways to improve the system. Sounds like there is an issue needing to be resolved.

Also, George Lucas needed to stop while he was ahead. The original Star Wars were great.

  10. "BCS: Bonus or Bust?" i have followed the BCS scandal over the last few seasons. I think the current system does not have the ability to benefit every party as fairly as possible. Changing the system would create a more accessible and understandable playoff system that could encourage teams to work herder to win a yearly title.

“Star Wars: Timeless Work of Art or George Lucas’ Tinker Toy?” I think this matter is not that important. In the grand scheme of history, works of art will change as time progresses, it is called progression for a reason. Art and entertainment are short lived experiences where war, poverty, hunger, and homelessness can last lifetimes. When weighing the impact of the topic against others it seems not worth mentioning.

  11. I really enjoyed the second article. It really does sound like a rant towards Lucas, but brings me some great insight sence I've seen the originals, and haven't watched any of the remakes. I started remembering about the characters and how the smallest stuff back then helped develop the original characters, like Han's moral character and the HUGE development at the end finding out he's a really great guy and not just a pirate saving his own butt. I haven't seen the changes they've made but after reading about them, i agree that changing parts of the characters past takes away from the depth of the character.

  12. I enjoyed the "BCS: Bonus or Bust" I thought that article stated things that everyone was thinking. It is true, there could be a better system. The Stars wars article I could care less about I don't know enough to really care.

  13. The BCS paper was very very true. It needs to be changed, I feel like it is unfair to some teams the way the system is right now. A great example is 2009 i think it was when the University of Utah did not loose a game that year and the still were ranked below a few other teams that had lost a couple of games. The world revolves around how much money you have. The school that has the most money in there football program always goes a lot further then a less fortunate school. That should change. I watch a lot of college and NFL football, so I know where Lunt is coming from. It was a great paper, if only i would have thought of writing it before he did. Those are my views on the subject down to the T.

  14. like the article about the BCS not a big College football fan but I can relate to this article because I followed that year with the Utes and felt that the system was unfair and need t be changed. as for second article I have watch the original and the new ones the changes did not affect me guess I am not a true fan that lives everything Star Wars. I will turn in my light saber. Hollywood changes movies all the time and they get less criticism so I just don't get the big deal with this series.

  15. I feel the article “Star Wars: Timeless Work of Art or George Lucas’ Tinker Toy?” was more a rant. The writer seems to me to be upset but his argument is very opinioned. After first initially reading the article I think it has no importance if not a fan of star wars then I apply the thesis to life as a whole and I see the importance of the message the writer is trying to convey. To a certain extent, the fans of something should be entitled to some say so on what goes on with the changes of whatever it is their a fan of because without them it wouldn't be as significant in the first place.

  16. I agree with Lunt's suggestion for change in the BCS. I feel in his article, he stated his thesis strongly and provided great evidence to support it. Even me not being a fan of football, I was able to understand his claims because he was so clear throughout his whole argument.

  18. I found the Star wars article to be very interesting. In the end i would not agree with Ondrusek. The artist's work is no matter how beloved it may be is the artists. He has the right to tinker and change anything that we wants.
